The German record champions still want to upgrade the full-back position. One trail leads to the Netherlands.
FC Bayern has apparently decided on its number one transfer target and is working intensively on signing Givairo Read. As “Sport Bild” reports, the 19-year-old right-back from Feyenoord Rotterdam is the dream solution for the defensive wing of the German record champions. But it’s not about a change in winter, but in the coming summer.
With Konrad Laimer, Sacha Boey, Alphonso Davies and Josip Stanišić, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany actually has enough full-backs at his disposal. Raphaël Guerreiro, Joshua Kimmich and Tom Bischof can also fill the position. But: According to the report, sports director Max Eberl and sports director Christoph Freund are pursuing a special plan.
Accordingly, Stanišić should move more into central defense in the future. The Croatian is not unfamiliar with the position, but he is currently mostly deployed in one of the two full-back positions. Should Bayern sign Read, the Dutchman could take on the role and Stanišić would be another option behind the currently seeded Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah. Bayern’s homegrown player is a kind of Swiss army knife and has also played as a left-back this season.
With Min-jae Kim and Hiroki Itō, there are still two alternatives available in central defense. The South Korean, who has a contract until 2028, is currently not making it beyond the reserve role and could leave the German record champions in the summer. According to “Sport Bild”, Kim is currently concentrating on the after-effects of his complaints from the previous season and wants to get 100 percent fit.
Read is under contract with Feyenoord until 2029. Last season he appeared in 26 league games for his club, contributing two goals and setting up seven more. This season he played 12 of 18 possible games in the Eredivisie.
At the beginning of October, Read made his debut for the Dutch U21 national team. The Amsterdam-born defender led his country’s U19 team as captain to win the European Championship in the summer. According to “transfermarkt.de”, its market value is estimated at 25 million euros.
