Jari Saarion The Clayton rowboat was stranded on the open sea. This is not an ordinary rowing boat found on cottage beaches, but a 7.3 meter long and over one and a half meter wide fiberglass ocean rowing boat.
The boat has a price too. The total budget of the rowing project is said to be around 450,000 euros, of which Clayton’s share is just under a third.
– In my opinion, it could not have been included due to rescue operational reasons, the person in charge of Saario’s communications Hanni Marin says.
Saario had to call for help on Friday evening when his boat was damaged by a violent wave. According to Marin, Saario had to rely on water, but was able to save the situation.
– The sea was so rough that the boat turned over several times. (Saario) also had to rely on the water, but he was able to pull himself back into the boat and turn it on its side, says Marin.
– Then it was damaged in such a way that it was no longer capable of rowing.

– He is still doing well physically and mentally. He is naturally still under observation, Marin states.
Twice sailed around the world alone Tapio Lehtinen previously told Iltalehti that Saario’s sea crisis did not surprise him.
– I talked with him before this trip. We agreed that such a small boat in those conditions will capsize several times, said the sailor master.
– I myself would never have gone into those conditions with such a trick. It’s very risky.
