Flemish Minister for Animal Welfare Ben Weyts suspended a transport permit for the first time last year, after checks revealed serious violations. The company from Houthulst transported animals with cuts, umbilical hernias, wounds and infections.
In the meantime, the company drew up an action plan that, after some adjustments, was approved by Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen. That plan included training for staff and measures to ensure animals are healthy and treated respectfully during transport. The company therefore got its license back.
