The first deputy mayor of the Barcelona City Council, the socialist James Collbonisaid this Saturday that Barcelona “must have a central role” in the bid to host the 2030 Winter Olympics.
This has been stated after representatives of the Government, the Generalitat and the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) validated yesterday Friday “the proposal presented, debated and agreed by the Technical Commission” on the candidacy for the 2030 Winter Olympics, “waiting for the government of Aragon to join in”, which they called on to “maintain the agreements”.
According Collbonithe technical proposal that the COE is leading “is optimal” and has “all the support” of the PSC to facilitate “sufficient agreement to launch the candidacy”.
“We call for an agreement, for dialogue, to trust in the COE, because these Games will be good for Catalonia, for Barcelona and for Spain”, he pointed out.
Collboni has taken “for granted that Barcelona will have a central role in these Olympic Games” and added: “It is obvious that if the world wants to know, to begin with, where they are going, Barcelona must have this role”.
In fact, he recalled that “Barcelona was the city that launched the idea ten years ago” to organize the 2030 Games in the Pyrenees.
On the other hand, Collboni He has said he does not know “in what terms the consultation” promoted by the Government on the Olympic candidacy will be considered, although he has already advanced that the PSC will ask for the ‘yes’, because it represents “a magnificent opportunity, especially for the Pyrenees of Catalonia and of Aragon”.
The President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragoneswill sign next Monday the “decree promoting the convocation of the consultation” on the Olympic candidacy.
With the signature of Aragonesethe institutional initiative to convene a popular consultation will be approved, a decree in which only the territorial scope of the consultation will be specified, which will include at least the counties of Alt Pirineu and Aran.
Next, Aragonese will have a maximum period of 90 days to sign a second decree, in this case to formally convene the consultation, a decree that must be published between 30 and 60 days before the celebration of the same and in which it must also include the specific question, the census and the date.
