Chantal Janzen thinks it is unwise that her boss Peter van der Vorst initially wanted to demolish the entire live element of The Voice of Holland. “I kept thinking about it,” she admits.
You would think that RTL 4 would do everything it could to make the return of The Voice of Holland a success, but the new series will not feel urgent at all from next month. All live shows have been canceled and the initial plan was to pre-record even the final, including the results. Ultimately, the final is already on tape, but there is no winner yet.
Voice of the people
RTL 4 has decided to announce the winner live, but not in the studio – everything has already been recorded – but in the late talk show after The Voice, by which time it may still be the failed RTL Tonight.
Presenter Chantal Janzen is happy with this. “A final with an audience voting live is of course much more exciting,” she says A.D. “If I feel like I can improve something, I call the whole world. Then I text, push and pull. ‘The Voice belongs to the people’, I shouted to Peter (van der Vorst, ed.) on the phone.”
Old-fashioned exclamation
How does Chantal look back on that cry for help to RTL’s TV boss Peter? “I looked like Princess Beatrix with this old-fashioned exclamation. I wasn’t the only one who kept talking about it, you know. And the credits ultimately go to Peter, because he makes the decision to change it shortly beforehand.”
She concludes: “I was euphoric that it worked. Shortly before the recording of the final, I texted Martijn: ‘I’m going to do it for us’. He responded: ‘Well, that gives people pleasure this day. Love you!’”
