Comic artist Marjane Satrapi has died.

Satrapi was born in Iran in 1969 and moved to France in 1994. He became known as a revolutionary Persepolis– with the cartoon. In the work, Satrapi deals with growing up during the Iranian Islamic Revolution.
The series was published in 2000-2003. It was published in Finnish in 2004 and 2007 and again in one edition in 2025.
An animated film directed and written by Satrap was released from the series in 2007. The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association chose it as the best animation of the year. The animated film was also nominated for two Oscars.
Satrapi’s family has given a statement to AFP about Satrapi’s death.
– Marjane Satrapi died of grief a little over a year ago Mattias Ripanafter the death of her husband and the love of her life, Satrapi’s relatives told AFP in a statement.
Mattias Ripa was a Swedish producer, actor and screenwriter. He died on April 8, 2025.
