The exodus from ratings flop RTL Tonight continues: this time Wiesje Hillen, who cobbled together the old-fashioned section with online videos, has to make do. “A very wise choice.”

Things continue to rumble at RTL Tonight. In a desperate attempt to turn the tide, another face flies out the window. After editor-in-chief Carlo van Lienden, flop reporter Stijn de Vries and the big star of the show Renze Klamer, Wiesje Hillen is sent home this time. She talked about a stale section with online videos.

Huge highlight

Wiesje himself sees it as a ‘gigantic highlight of 2025’. “That was my adventure at RTL Tonight. Every day with my digital sleuth looking for crazy and hilarious news and then being able to present it on television is really great. Unfortunately, this section will not continue into the new year, and that also means my time at Tonight ends.”

She continues Instagram: “I look back on this daily live adventure on TV with a big smile. How supported I am by the amazing team behind the scenes, the presenters, the interpreters, but also by the viewers who faithfully sent me messages and funny videos. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for watching, laughing and supporting.”

Wise choice

TV authority Tina Nijkamp had been targeting Wiesje for some time. She now writes on her analysis channel: “RTL Tonight has used the winter break for changes. Wiesje has exited there with her video section (à la Luuk Ikink in the past). Wise choice, never understood anything about that old-fashioned item.”

She continues: “After Stijn de Vries, fewer interpreters at the table and the audience in the picture, this is yet another change towards the old talk show. Now the table is back, Renze is back and then it’s like early 2025 again.”

Outright flop

The visitors of NU.nl are ruthless. “The program is a complete flop. And apparently it is difficult to go back to the original concept! Admitting is sometimes difficult!!,” says a certain Gerritje.

Barbapapa: “As a presenter, I found her terribly irritating. She also often came up with things that had already gone viral three weeks earlier.”

And James: “The format of RTL Tonight has been ‘adjusted’ so many times that the only constant factor is the departure of the presenters. Is there already a loyalty card for employees who last more than three months?”
