The Tour de Ski started this Sunday. And at the start a German shone. Only 0.24 seconds were missing from victory.

Coletta Rydzek achieved an impressive second place in the freestyle sprint at the start of the 20th Tour de Ski in Toblach. The 28-year-old from Oberstdorf only had to admit defeat to Norwegian runner-up Kristine Stavaas Skistad. Only 0.24 seconds were missing from victory.

Rydzek, the sister of the combined athlete Johannes Rydzek, impressed in the prologue as well as in the quarter and semi-finals and qualified for the final of the best six runners. There she secured second place ahead of the Swedish Olympic silver medalist Maja Dahlqvist. At the beginning of March, Rydzek celebrated her first career victory at the World Cup final in Lahti.

Other German runners were also able to score points in Toblach. Sofie Krehl from Oberstdorf and Pia Fink from Bremelau reached the quarter-finals, but were eliminated in fifth place in their group and took places 22 and 24 in the overall ranking. Olympic team sprint champion Katharina Hennig Dotzler missed out on a place in the quarter-finals by finishing 46th in the prologue.
