With Reeves Gabrels and Roger O’Donnell, two members of The Cure have personally reacted to the death of Perry Bamonte. O’Donnell posted a short statement on X about a photo of him and Bamonte: “Remembering all the laughs we shared …”

Yesterday, Friday The Cure on their homepage Perry Bamonte’s death reported: “It is with great sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte, who passed away at home over Christmas after a short illness,” the band wrote. “Quiet, intense, intuitive, consistent and immensely creative, ‘Teddy’ was a warm and indispensable part of The Cure’s story.”

And further on the band’s page: “As someone who looked after the band from 1984 to 1989, he became a permanent member of The Cure in 1990, played guitar, six-string bass and keyboard on the albums ‘Wish’, ‘Wild Mood Swings’, ‘Bloodflowers’, ‘Acoustic Hits’ and ‘The Cure’ and also played over 400 concerts in 14 years.”

“He returned to The Cure in 2022 and played a further 90 shows, some of the best in the band’s history, culminating in the ‘Songs of a Lost World’ concert in London on November 1, 2024. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his entire family. He will be missed very, very much.”

Perry Bamonte was 65 years old. Neither The Cure nor his relatives have revealed a cause of death. There has been no further comment on the Cure social media accounts either. Bamonte’s fragile appearance and his reserved game on stage had already worried fans since his Cure comeback in 2022.

Roger O’Donnell beats cancer

Most recently, keyboardist Roger O’Donnell struggled with his health – he beat cancer. The Cure’s longtime keyboardist announced in 2024 that he had been battling a “very rare and aggressive form of lymphatic cancer” but was now “doing well. And the prognosis is amazing.”

“I had ignored the symptoms for a few months. But finally I went to a doctor. And after surgery, the biopsy results were devastating,” O’Donnell wrote. So he beat cancer.
