The Genoa coach will challenge the Giallorossi team for the first time on Monday. A few years ago he wore a wig, hat, glasses and even a fake mole to avoid being recognised

Experience a derby as a true fan, almost as an ultras. Not on the pitch where he had played dozens of them, always with a knife between his teeth. But in the Curva Sud where he often went as a child and where they are ready to applaud him even as an opponent. He wanted to do it without having obsessive glances at him and without particular attention. Like any other person, like many others. Daniele De Rossi had dreamed of it for a long time, especially since he hung up his boots. He always said to his friends: “I want to come to the corner without being recognized!”. And then he also promised it on the day of his first farewell to Roma, as a footballer. A feat that seemed impossible.

the makeup

Daniele’s face and voice, in fact, are unmistakable for the fans who had seen him take to the field to defend the Giallorossi colors 616 times. On January 26, 2020, however, De Rossi succeeded in the feat. And he succeeds on derby day. The current Genoa coach organized the “prank” together with the actor Valerio Mastandrea and the presenter Marco Bianchi, alias Zoro. Over two hours of make up to make Daniele unrecognizable, all documented a few hours later by a video by his wife Sarah Felberbaum. “This is what happens when your husband decides to infiltrate the Curva Sud to fulfill his dream and see the derby. We wasted an entire afternoon, hours of make-up, traumatized the children but he was happy as a child”, wrote the actress in the post which immediately went viral. And published not before the final whistle of the match against Lazio which ended 1-1 with goals from Acerbi for the Biancocelesti and Dzeko for the Giallorossi. But what did the disguise consist of? A wool hat, a wig with long blonde hair, a pair of glasses and a mole on the tip of his nose.

what a thrill

Then tight lips, especially at the entrance to the turnstiles where Daniele feared most of being “caught”. And yet nothing, no fan recognized De Rossi who did not skimp on chants, screams and hugs in the stands. From the moment of the choreography you can see the former midfielder in the corner waving the yellow flags and applauding the entrance of those who had been his teammates until two years earlier. Then the celebration for Dzeko’s goal and the hands in the (fake) hair for Acerbi’s equaliser. Furthermore, in his farewell conference he warned: “I don’t rule out the possibility that in the future you will find me in a sector with beer and a sandwich cheering on Roma.” A promise kept at that curve under which he will also run next Monday in his first challenge of his life against his favorite team.
