Shortly after leaving Zaandam Kogerveld station, Marcel suddenly found a black tomcat on ‘his’ train. “Then I asked him for his ticket,” he laughs. “But Jack didn’t have that.” The conductor turned a blind eye to it this time.

Marcel took the tomcat with him in the cabin, all the way to Schiphol. “I don’t think Jack took the plane just yet,” laughs Annelies. Jack didn’t seem to worry about anything anyway. “He does have faith in humanity,” says Annelies. “We can learn something from that at Christmas.”

Special Christmas guest

Because it was late and no one on the train seemed to miss Jack, Marcel decided to take the animal home. “I am responsible for all passengers on my train,” says the conductor. “And so also for Jack.”

Marcel unexpectedly received a Christmas guest and Jack spent the holidays with a new friend in Amsterdam.

With the help of the animal ambulance and Marcel, the adventurous tomcat is now back home. The peace did not last long: the first thing Jack did when he got home was to ask to go outside again.

The question remains whether Marcel will have to miss Jack from now on. The two really hit it off, Annelies laughs. “And Jack can visit independently.”
