The Füchse Berlin celebrated a successful start to the second half of the season with a clear win at GWD Minden. This means they initially pass THW Kiel.
At the start of the second half of the handball Bundesliga, they… Foxes Berlin achieved a landslide win away from home. The reigning German champions won 39:28 (20:13) at sixteenth-placed GWD Minden on Sunday evening.
The Füchse move past THW Kiel into fourth place – albeit with one more game played.
The best Berlin thrower was world handball player Mathias Gidsel, all of his twelve goal throws hit. National player Nils Lichtlein also scored ten strong goals. Coach Nicolej Krickau again had to do without world champion Lasse Andersson (abdominal muscle strain), and he also gave Lasse Ludwig preference in goal.
The Foxes started confidently, were good on defense and in attack the ball ran quickly through their own ranks. After twelve minutes they were already 9:3 ahead.
Krickau can spare top stars early on
But then the masters’ technical errors piled up – ten in the first half. Minden came within three goals again (13:10). The fact that the Foxes were no longer in trouble was mainly thanks to Ludwig’s strong saves. With a 4-0 run shortly before the break, the Berliners were able to pull away again and the guests had everything under control even after the break.
After 40 minutes the lead had increased to twelve goals (29:17). With that the game was decided. With the clear lead behind him, Krickau was able to rest his stars early on and try out a few things. So Gidsel was off work after just under 40 minutes.
Because on Tuesday (8 p.m.) the Füchse will play at HSV Hamburg.
