Iskelmä singer Eino Grön86, plans to spend next Christmas on the Sunshine Coast. In the middle of December, he will fly to Spain for a couple of weeks to the Alicante region, where he will start his vacation in Torrevieja.

From there, the legend heads to Fuengirola, where he plans to perform for the local Spanish Finns. This is by no means all, but Grön sweeps to Florida as a climax, where it is January.

– I will spend my 87th birthday there. Of course, trips are usually tiring, especially crossing the Atlantic, but you can adjust to it, Grön grumbles.

Before the well-deserved vacation, the singer is touring around Finland doing ten Christmas concerts.

– They always remind me of childhood Christmases, he says.

Grön’s personal Christmas carol favorites are I’m not looking for power, glory and My Christmaswhich he has also recorded in his time.

The only small minus of Christmas spent in the south is that you have to be a little flexible in the Christmas meal.

– I’m happy if I get lye fish. And a good white sauce for that, ah ah, he muses.

The Christmas table in Fuengirola may be different, but Grön is prepared for it.

– I think there are traditional canteens there, because quite a lot of Finns live in the area. You can also get a box of carrots and lantu from there, he guesses.

The most golden Christmas

According to Eino Grön, Christmas has changed a lot with age. He was widowed in 2024, when Berry-wife died after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for a long time.

– This year I have practiced being alone. It’s been a wave movement. Sometimes I’m sad, then I pull myself together and we move on again, Grön describes.

He says that work is a big asset that balances feelings of longing. Grön states that in the past, even Christmases were more family-oriented.

– Nowadays, the family has shrunk a bit. When my own son was little, it was nice to watch him in the evening. Santa Claus came, and his lower lip trembled a little when he had to say hello to Santa, he laughs.

– They were great experiences.

This Christmas, his grown son will spend Christmas with his own family.

– Let’s focus on having fun together next Christmas, he says and says he’s going to enjoy the sun.

What the singer hopes for next year is that she will be able to live healthy.

– If I can be healthy, then my own program is pretty clear. Then fitness will be quite strongly involved in my life, he plans.

The people’s favorite has enough energy, but he is aware of the realities of his advanced age. Grön says that he understands that at some point even singing comes to an end.

– Surely it’s ahead, but for now I’m still gigging.

When facing the public, the heart area gets the same warm feeling as always.
