There is a serious chance that the ratings hit Wie is de Mol will move to RTL 4 or SBS 6, because AvroTros is willing to let this go. “This program is in a twilight zone.”
Commercial TV channels have been complaining for years about the enormous amount of entertainment on public broadcasting. Why should taxpayer money go to a program like Wie is de Mol? It disrupts the market and RTL 4 and SBS 6 are undoubtedly eager to do so. If they jump high enough next year, there is a chance of a move.
Mol to Talpa?
Taco Zimmerman, the AvroTros boss who will keep the Netherlands away from the Eurovision Song Contest next year, shows willingness to let Wie is de Mol go. “I am aware that this connecting program is entering a twilight zone,” he says A.D.
He continues: “If a commercial channel wants it so badly, shouldn’t we give it up at some point? I also have no problem with Arjen Lubach moving to RTL. Fine, then we will look for new talent again. That is also our public task.”
Milked out
The AvroTros also exhibits commercial milking behavior with Wie is de Mol. “Isn’t there currently an excess of Wie is de Mol? Now an anniversary season, soon a regular series and a streaming series on NPO Start…”, the newspaper asks the broadcaster.
Taco then: “It could be a bit less, yes. You have to keep the viewer eager. Who is the Mole? may also be less frequent later. But we are still discussing this with the NPO.”
