The boost that Javier Milei took in public opinion after the resounding victory in the legislative elections in October also began to be reflected in the map of the governors. This is revealed by the latest ranking of provincial leaders prepared by CB Consultora Opinión Pública, which once again placed at the top a Peronist well considered by the national government: Osvaldo Jaldo from Tucumán.

The study corresponds to this month’s measurement and is part of a series that the consulting firm led by analyst Cristian Buttié has published continuously since May 2020. In this year’s national elections, CB Consultora also stood out for having been the pollster with the best electoral forecasts.

The survey confirms a general trend: with some exceptions, governors with closer ties to President Milei appear better positioned than those identified as tough opponents. In that relegated group there are important names such as Axel Kicillof, in the province of Buenos Aires, and Ricardo Quintela, in La Rioja.

As usually happens in this type of studies, the image of provincial leaders tends to be more favorable within their own districts than that of national leaders. In the December ranking, in fact, only three of the 24 governors recorded more negative than positive image.

The survey was carried out between the 10th and 14th of the month, with samples that ranged between 635 and 924 cases per province and an estimated margin of error of between +/- 3% and 4%.

The best and worst located

According to the report, the three governors best rated by their co-provincials in December are Osvaldo Jaldo (Tucumán), who heads the ranking with a 60.3% positive image; Claudio Poggi (Saint Louis), with 58.6%; and Marcelo Orrego (San Juan), who completes the podium with 56.9% approval.

At the other end of the table the governors with the worst levels of positive image appear. The last place is occupied by Alberto Weretilneck (Río Negro), with 46.1%; followed by Ricardo Quintela (La Rioja), with 46.8%; and Axel Kicillof (Buenos Aires), with 47.2% approval.

The report also measures the evolution compared to the previous measurement. The governor who grew the most in positive image was Weretilneck, with an increase of 2.8 percentage points, while the greatest drop corresponded to Gildo Insfrán (Formosa), who registered a decrease of 3.6 points in his approval level.

Federal ranking of mayors

The CB Consultora study also included a federal ranking of mayors, with a communal chief per province, in many cases corresponding to the local capital. In this case, the surveys were carried out between 356 and 479 cases per municipality, with interviews also between the 10th and the 14th of the month and a margin of error of between +/- 4% and 5%.

Among the highest-rated mayors, Gustavo Sastre (Puerto Madryn) stands out, who leads the ranking with a 60.2% positive image; Jorge Jofré (Formosa Capital), with 59.7%; and Leonardo Stelatto (Posadas), with 59.3%.

At the bottom of the table appear Walter Cortés (Bariloche), with a 35.1% positive image; Julio Alak (La Plata), with 36.4%; and Armando Molina (La Rioja Capital), with 36.5%.

Regarding monthly variations, the mayor who grew the most was Walter Vuoto (Ushuaia), with an increase of 3.2 percentage points, while the greatest fall corresponded to Roy Nikisch (Resistencia), with a decrease of 3.6 points in his approval level.
