It ends 1-2 at San Nicola. Aquilani’s team scores their fourth success in a row and rises to -6 from the top. Vivarini’s red and whites (3 points in 5 games since he was on the bench) remain on the fringes of the playout zone and leave amidst the boos of the few fans present

It was necessary to put the fourth gear for acceleration from a very high zone. Aquilani’s Catanzaro defeats San Nicola and obtains the fourth success in a row, the one useful for climbing to 28 and further shortening the B ranking, to -6 from the top. It ends 2-1 for the Calabrians against a dull Bari who are stuck at 16, still out of the playouts, but without a win for a month and a half.

first half

Vivarini launches Gytkjaer and Rao forward, Aquilani and his Catanzaro respond with the Pittarello-Iemmello pair with the usual Cissè in support. The study phase ends in the 17th minute, when the guests hit the crossbar with Iemmello, who did well to find himself ready to head Cassandro’s cross but was imprecise in his conclusion. Bari doesn’t increase the pressure, the guests strike on the next attempt: exactly half an hour, Iemmello’s side finds Pontisso’s spectacular right-footed volley which gives them the advantage. A “beach” goal, the result of the headlights off movement of the former Udinese and Vicenza team. You expect a reaction from the red and whites, but at the end of the first half the field of shots on target scores a complete zero. Catanzaro only had to manage until half-time.

recovery

Vivarini tries to shake up his team with two changes upon leaving the changing rooms: Burgio and Gytkjaer out, Manè and Moncini in. But the strikers, this time coldly, are once again the guests: Petriccione delivers a shot into the area, Antonini crowns an already sumptuous performance of his own with the header to make it 2-0. It’s the jab that seems to knock out the Apulians: Bari’s first shot on target arrives in the 69th minute with substitute Bellomo finding Pigliacelli’s easy catch. The newcomer is the most dangerous of his team. And also the one that finally enters the scoreboard: Catanzaro in fact in the 92nd minute reopens a match already well-conducted when Liberali commits a naivety in the area by stopping Maggiore in a foul. It’s a penalty for Bari, with Bellomo making no mistakes, suddenly halving the distance. There are only two minutes remaining: Bari throws forward a ball and a prayer, but this time there are no more dangers circulating around Pigliacelli. In fact, it is a match that is only up for discussion in the final two minutes, before Catanzaro celebrates amidst the boos of the red and white crowd.
