Francis van Broekhuizen himself does not think that she sang out of tune the day before yesterday during the TV event The Nativity Scene of the Netherlands. “I just hit all the notes,” snorts the hysterical soprano.
Most people will have missed it, but NPO 1 broadcast a new The Passion-like event the day before yesterday, namely The Nativity Scene of the Netherlands. The Biblical Christmas story came ‘to life in a heart-warming way’, live from Maastricht. Soy Kroon played Joseph, Sara Afiba was Maria and Kim-Lian van der Meij played an angel.
Singing out of tune
Francis van Broekhuizen was also present, namely as an innkeeper. An innkeeper singing off-key, that is. Pooh, pooh, pooh: a fragment of it was shown last night in Today Inside and what a sound came out. It’s like kicking a cat on the tail. René Froger’s hit ‘Everything can make a person happy’ has never sounded so bad.
TV authority Tina Nijkamp sat on the couch during the live show and was shocked. “Even the always clean-singing Francis van Broekhuizen now seems to be singing out of tune. What is this?”, she wrote on her analysis channel. “It seems too much like a parody. I’m almost in tears because it’s so absurd. It can’t be the intention.”
Fresh cup of tea
We see Francis in the biblical TV show walking through some café as she struggles through the verse of the René Froger hit. It sounds really awful, like she’s hoarse and has a hair in her throat. Then she arrives at the chorus and starts screaming like a real soprano: “The sun breaking through, a fresh cup of tea!”
Tina thinks it’s laughable. “I was sitting on the couch and this just made me laugh really hard!” she admits at the table Today Inside.
Screaming kitchen maid
Johan Derksen is also shocked by it. “I don’t think it’s possible anymore to make a program without this screaming kitchen maid, because she turns up everywhere.”
She was even recently in VI. Wilfred Genee: “She was quite sweet, right?”
Johan: “She is a very nice woman, but she shows up everywhere where it is actually not that relevant.”
‘I didn’t sing out of tune!’
Tina then reveals that Francis was not very happy with her criticism. “She can actually sing quite beautifully, but no one says to her: ‘Sorry, but you should just choose another song,’ right?”
“Anyway, she DM’ed me today, because I also said today: ‘How is that possible? Francis van Broekhuizen really sings out of tune.’ Then she DM’d me and said that the notes were hit or something. I don’t know anything about that, but I found it really embarrassing.”
