Let’s take a quick look back at your financial affairs, for many people it is a confrontational moment in December. With the Rabo Retrospective, Rabobank shows how Dutch people handled their money in 2025. And if you zoom in on North Brabant, you will soon see a recognizable image emerge: Brabanders pay close attention to their money, but also know when it is time to enjoy themselves.

“You see that money is not just numbers, but is a reflection of our lifestyle,” says Julian Bongaards, responsible for the Rabo App. “With Rabo Retrospect we want to give customers, and especially young adults, insight into their finances in an accessible way.” Brabant residents stand out in various categories.

Savings as a solid foundation
Brabanders appear to be real savers. While the Dutch put aside an average of around 256 euros per month, the amount is higher in North Brabant: around 285 euros. Saving is therefore an integral part of financial life. At the same time, the money does not remain untouched: on average, the savings account is used several times a year for smaller expenses. Saving as a safety net, not as a lock on the door.

Investing, but with policy
North Brabant has the most investors in the Netherlands. Yet Brabanders are cautious: those who have an investment account have, on average, about 7 percent less assets than the national average. This indicates a diversified approach: investing in addition to saving, without taking major risks.

Burgundian life remains important
On the expenditure side, Brabant shows its burgundy face. Brabant residents spend an average of 179 euros per month on eating out, about 11 euros more than the average Dutch person. More is also spent on hobbies and free time: approximately 195 euros per month. The Burgundian life is clearly reflected in the figures.

Generous donors
In addition to enjoying, there is also an eye for others. Brabanders give an average of 1,556 euros per year to charities. That is higher than the national average. Whether it concerns large organizations or local initiatives: sharing what you have is part of the province.

Payment requests are a daily occurrence
Payment requests have become an indispensable part of everyday life. The Dutch send an average of 31 per year; In North Brabant the number is slightly higher with 33 payment requests. The average amount per request is around 49 euros, quickly arranged after a dinner or a day out.

Economical where necessary, generous where possible
All in all, the Rabo Review paints a clear picture: Brabanders keep a close eye on their financial affairs, but above all do not forget to live. Economical where necessary, generous where possible. Exactly as you would expect under the rivers.
