The shuttle bus between Emmen station and the registration center in Ter Apel runs free today. Outgoing Minister of Asylum Mona Keijzer (BBB) canceled that plan yesterday during a visit to Ter Apel, but travelers can still use the shuttle bus for free today.
The municipality of Emmen refers for comments to the municipality of Westerwolde, which includes Ter Apel. Westerwolde just does not want to respond yet. Bus operator Qbuzz also refers to the municipality of Westerwolde.
This morning there was confusion among drivers for a short time. Initially, the first few rides were free, after which you had to pay for a ticket again. The 9.20 am bus was then free again, saw RTV Drenthe reporter Mirthe Zuhorn.
Bus operator Qbuzz and the municipalities of Emmen and Westerwolde decided last week to make the existing shuttle bus free for safety reasons. According to them, incidents on bus route 73 are increasing, with non-paying asylum seekers increasingly causing problems. By making the shuttle bus free, the municipalities want to reduce the pressure on line 73.
The shuttle service is organized by the Ministry of Justice and Security, in collaboration with the municipalities of Westerwolde and Emmen. Drenthe Tours carries out the rides. This concerns private transport and not public transport.
