Albert Verlinde finds it very lame how Angela de Jong has spoken about Marco Borsato at the desk of RTL Tonight. “It really bothered me,” he says at the same desk.

It is a repetitive question from Humberto Tan at the RTL Tonight desk: will you play Marco Borsato more often now that he has been acquitted of indecent assault? Albert Verlinde answered yes yesterday, Angela de Jong previously answered no. According to the opinion diva, we should not forget what came out during the hearing days.

To puke

Angela is done with it for good. “I have to say: he has been acquitted of fornication, but everything he did admit to that happened in that family and also the messages that were sent by a 50-year-old man to a 16 or 17-year-old girl really made me sick. No matter how much I like his music, I won’t put it on again myself.”

Critics believe that you should see the offending apps in context. The complainant — still an underage girl at the time — grew up in a rather sexualized family, and in that context, according to Marco, it was not very strange that he wrote to her that she would have a nice buttocks, because she wanted to hear that at that moment.

Disturbing Angela

It is wonderful that Marco has been acquitted, says Albert Verlinde. “For me it is that I think: how nice to hear him again. When we just played the song Rood, I thought: it is also creditable,” he says in RTL Tonight.

He continues: “It’s nice and I think so too, because Angela de Jong really bothered me, you know… I understand why you say: ‘Oh, what does it mean for the victims?’ I understand all that, but at a certain point you can also be happy that someone has been acquitted.”

Strange coincidence

Albert also finds it significant how often Marco now appears again in the Top 2000. “It is a remarkable coincidence that on December 4, when there is still plenty of voting for the Top 2000, Marco Borsato is acquitted. That has really caused a landslide in his numbers.”

He continues: “I think he should just be able to make his comeback and the fact that songs have now risen by a thousand places means that the audience thinks so too.”

Relax

One thing is certain: Marco is damaged forever. Some feel the same way as Angela does. “Of course there will be a small group that doesn’t find it, but a large group does. I would advise them to wait. Just calm down first and give them a place.”

Albert concludes: “If you see that this is happening now and you announce in a year or a year and a half that you are going to give a concert, sales will immediately go through the roof.”
