The European Handball Championship starts in a month. Actually, Justus Fischer was also planned for this. But the circle runner is injured. The only question is: for how long?

The handball Bundesliga team TSV Hannover-Burgdorf has to do without pivot Justus Fischer in the end of the year. The 22-year-old has torn a muscle fiber in his left thigh and will miss the remaining games of the year. This injury could also jeopardize his participation in the 2026 European Handball Championship, as national coach Alfred Gíslason will soon announce the final squad.

Fischer suffered the injury in the 38:28 win against HSG Wetzlar and was unable to take part in the following 28:22 win against TVB Stuttgart. He will definitely be missing for the upcoming games against THW Kiel on December 20th and against GWD Minden on December 27th.

Fischer was part of the expanded 35-man squad that Gíslason submitted to the European association at the beginning of December. However, the final decision on the squad composition for the European Championships in Denmark, Sweden and Norway will only be made at the “Technical Meeting” on January 14th in the preliminary round venue of Herning.

Until then, it remains unclear whether Fischer will be fit in time to maintain his chance of taking part in the European Championship.
