Evangelism is a phenomenon that has doubled in the last 15 years in Argentina and represents almost 20% of the population. YesIts growth was so exponential that in these last elections it had, for the first time, a bloc in Congress. An aspect that many leaders observe with great interest for the consolidation of renewed political spaces.
An aspect that Javier Milei, knowing the experience of Jair Bolsonaro In Brazil, he decided to seduce. The president granted religious legal status to the Evangelical Church and summoned it to the Casa Rosada to pray and to help with the distribution of food for the most vulnerable sectors. But, long before the libertarian president, there was a leader who anticipated and read the new times that were coming: Daniel Scioli.
A video went viral on social networks from when Scioli was part of Kirchnerism and served as governor of the province of Buenos Aires. In the sequence, the provincial leader takes the stage, located in a soccer stadium, in the middle of a massive evangelical meeting organized by Dante Gebel. The media pastor and the Justicialist leader greet each other effusively. At that moment, the religious man comments that they are united by friendship and that they met through the singer. Ricardo Montaner.
In the evangelical meeting and true to his style, Daniel Scioli sent the gathered crowd a message of peace and hope. A recurring positioning in the former vice president of Nestor Kirchner which multiplied in the 2014 presidential campaign, which he later lost to Mauricio Macri and the Cambiemos coalition. On the other hand, the nascent political path that Gebel was cultivating in those years to project himself to the present day is notable.
In fact, this year, Gebel performs at the theater with an allegorical show: “President.” The pastoral leader says he already has a campaign manager: God. And he admits that his theater, media and television appearances are a Trojan horse for another mission. “I like Milei, I always voted for him but if Dante shows up I would go with him,” said one of the attendees at his last show at the Gran Rex.
On the other hand, despite being part of the heart of Kirchnerist Peronism since its inception, Daniel Scioli continues to occupy a seat in the libertarian Casa Rosada as Secretary of Tourism, Environment and Sports. And who knows? Perhaps the so-called “asbestos man” chose his next candidate for the 2027 presidential elections and thus continue close to the political power of the country, as in recent decades.
