Wellness coaches Rita Niemi-Manninen46, and Aki Manninen50, have encountered a nasty twist on their family’s trip to Egypt. They are on the way to their daughter Donna with.

The Mannines tell Iltalehti that they had to see a doctor a couple of days ago in the evening because of Rita’s symptoms. The hospital was located in the hotel area. Rita says that she had an inkling that she had a urinary tract infection based on her uncomfortable state and her increased visits to the toilet.

– First I checked that the doctor’s consultation is 200 euros, which is fine, even though it is also hard, Rita explains.

– After I had given a urine sample, they put me on drip therapy when they still didn’t know which bacteria it was, or if I even had any. They said, “When you have some symptoms, we’ll put you on a drip so you can get some medicine intravenously,” he continues.

Rita says that she wondered why the doctors felt it necessary to give her infusion therapy. However, he agreed to the doctor’s suggestion and lay in the infusion treatment for a little over an hour. Among other things, blood tests were also taken from Rita.

The next day, the Mannises returned to the hospital because the test results had been completed. As it was, the diagnosis was a urinary tract infection.

– The doctor would have put me on a drip again. I had to argue with him that I’m not going to drop again, Rita says.

– He said that this is the protocol here. I said I don’t need any drips, just the drugs and then I’ll leave. Then he wrote on that paper [lääkärinlausuntoon]that “the patient refused another infusion”. So, what the hell?” he continues.

The price tag for Manninen’s trip to the hospital was 1,117 euros. The price consisted, among other things, of laboratory tests of 300 euros and infusion treatment of 400 euros.

– It cost 105 euros alone for them to look at me when I was down, Rita recounts with a laugh.

Mannis has a clear vision of an expensive trip to the hospital.

– I guess they put all the tourists in the drop, so there will always be a ton for sure, Rita says.

– Yes, absolutely a means of financing! Aki says.

Mannis has travel insurance and Aki has already sent pictures of the invoice for the compensation application. Rita says she’s doing just fine at the moment.

– Our little girl has had a bit of an upset stomach, and she has had to go to the bathroom all the time. Now let’s hope the situation doesn’t get worse, Rita says.

However, the Mannies approach the situation with humor, and a trip to the hospital does not spoil their vacation.

– The main thing that amuses me about this behavior here is that the little monkey is being molested. There isn’t even a hospital nearby, just a desert and only one treatment center that costs millions, Aki states.

Aki vows that they will never return to Egypt. They should return to Finland in a week, but they are worried about one thing.

– We have a TUI flight, so you don’t know what else can happen. Will we get home for Christmas, when a couple of years ago it was a bit difficult, Rita laughs.

In December 2023, the Mannines were briefly stuck in Mexico when their flight had to be canceled due to a lack of flight crew. Originally, those who were on Tui’s package trip were supposed to leave for home already on Friday, December 22, but they arrived in Finland only four days later.
