The reason that Antoin Peeters is currently not reading the autocue at RTL News is because he has had a very ‘heavy’ year and that has all kinds of ‘heavy’ effects on his health. The newsreader says this during a video of him walking through the forest. He won’t say what he has and he can’t say when he’ll be back.
Ego tickling
Why does Antoin elaborate on this at all? He says he has received all kinds of questions about it from his followers. You can of course simply have RTL send a statement stating that you are temporarily absent due to personal circumstances, but Antoin now only creates even more question marks.
TV critic Victor Vlam finds this awkward. “If you make a video in which you tickle your own ego so often, you have to say what’s going on. He doesn’t want that because then you get headlines like: ‘Antoin Peeters has burnout’, or whatever is wrong with him,” he writes. X.
Forest walk
