The Orlando Magic have had a turbulent few days. When Franz Wagner grabbed his knee after a fall in the game against the New York Knicks on Sunday, many assumed the worst. Some teammates were even more surprised by the diagnosis.
As it emerged on Monday, the German only suffered a sprained left ankle. “I couldn’t believe it, to be honest. I’m of course very happy for him that he avoided something bigger,” said Desmond Bane, who became the match winner in the Florida duel against the Miami Heat (117:108).
“We can’t wait until he gets back,” Bane continued. “We will do our best to keep the flag flying without him.” Orlando won the first game without the Berliner and is now in the semifinals of the NBA Cup.
Paolo Banchero emphasized how much the shock moment on Sunday had put a strain on the team: “The injury shocked the entire team. I’m glad it didn’t end his season.”
According to forecasts, Wagner will be out for around two to four weeks, which means that participation in the Berlin Game in January is still possible.
