Member states of the European Union are currently discussing new, stricter asylum measures. The draft agreements on the table already state that the Netherlands will be obliged to take in 1,095 asylum seekers as soon as the EU Migration Pact officially comes into effect. In addition, the Member States are investigating the possibility of entering into more collaborations – or so-called asylum deals – with countries outside Europe. The hope is that migration flows can be better regulated and the pressure on the external borders will be reduced. Correspondent Alexander Bakker reports from Brussels and explains the latest developments. In the News of the Day studio, VVD MP Queeny Rajkowski and JA21 MP Diederik Boomsma respond to the EU’s plans, sharing their concerns and expectations about the impact of these measures on the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.
