Bambi has to go to rehab after being rescued

The fire brigade rescued a trapped wild animal from a construction fence in Fürstenwalde.

Bambi in distress! Bambi must be saved!

Unusual alarm for the firefighters in Fürstenwalde/Spree. On Wednesday night they had to move out to a young deer that was trapped in a construction site fence – the completely frightened animal could neither go forward nor backward.

The head and front torso still fit through the opening in the fence, but the rear end was stuck. That’s how a local resident found the poor wild animal. An eyewitness reports: “The sight was terrible. The deer was shaking incredibly.”

Only when the fire brigade cut through the mesh of the metal fence with bolt cutters could Bambi be freed from his desperate situation.

Wildlife expert Heino Krannich (62) is critical of the rescue: “Every unnatural barrier in the wild area is a big trap for the deer. Human contact during a rescue operation is often torture for the deer. Many rescued animals die a little later from the excitement and the overwork. You can often tell a stressed deer by its staring gaze.”

The animal was taken to the local veterinary clinic immediately after the rescue operation – Bambi now has to go to the rehab.
