The Italian swimwear brand Arena is the first brand to launch a swimwear collection with Lycra EcoMade – a fiber that consists of 70 percent plant-based raw materials. It is predominantly obtained from industrial corn and therefore offers a petroleum-free, renewable alternative to conventional fibers. The fiber obtained in this way saves resources without compromising on quality or performance: It has the usual Lycra performance and is resistant to chlorine, UV rays and sunscreen, the company explains in a press release.

“Many of our products already consist of recycled fibers such as nylon or polyester. The collaboration with The Lycra Company is now another important step towards sustainability,” explains Peter Graschi, CEO of Arena. “By using bio-based elastane, which is obtained from renewable raw materials, we reduce our dependence on fossil materials – without compromising quality or performance. The use of responsibly produced fibers – whether recycled, organic or bio-based – is part of our comprehensive commitment to environmental protection and responsible innovation.”

The innovative fiber is used in the Vitalife collection for women, which consists of three models. The brand ambassador for the new collection is the Turkish record free diver Şahika Ercümen.
