The city of Ostend asked Flemish Minister of Immovable Heritage Ben Weyts (N-VA) to adjust the contours of the protected landscape. There are plans to build several residential towers on the site.
Volunteers from Natuurpunt Middenkust warn that a valuable inner dune area is in danger of being lost if the protection around Fort Napoleon is lifted. “This is the last inner dune area of the Oosteroever. If we give nature space, it will recover itself,” said a press release.
