In the summer, Liverpool lost Diogo Jota to a tragic accident. On his birthday, the club once again paid tribute to their player.

It has now been five months since Diogo Jota died. The Portuguese international died in a traffic accident in Spain at the beginning of July. Now his club, Liverpool FC, is paying tribute to him once again. The reason: Jota would have turned 29 on December 4th.

“Today, like every day, we remember Diogo Jota on his 29th birthday,” wrote the “Reds” on their social media channels alongside a picture of the striker in which he is jubilantly holding up the Premier League trophy. “All our love, thoughts and prayers continue to go out to his wife Rute, his children, parents and his entire family and friends as well as those of his brother André,” it continued.

The club concluded the post with the words “Forever in our hearts, forever our number 20” and a red heart emoji. Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher commented on the post, also sending a red heart.

Jota played for Liverpool FC from 2020 until his death and wore number 20 there. In July he was driving a Lamborghini Huracán on the way from Porto back to the city in northwest England to begin pre-season training with the team. However, during an overtaking maneuver near Cernadilla, one of the car’s tires burst, leaving the road and catching fire. Jota was killed, as was his brother André Silva, who was also in the car.

Jota had married his wife Rute Cardoso just a few weeks before his death. The couple has three children together. Just a few days ago, Cardoso published a post on Instagram in which she celebrated her youngest child’s birthday. You can also see several pictures of Diogo Jota with his daughter. Cardoso captioned the post with the words “A whole year.”
