The German handball champions Füchse Berlin surprisingly suffered their first defeat of the season in the Champions League.
At the bottom of the table, Kolstad HB from Norway, head coach Nicolej Krickau’s weakened team lost 24:28 (12:15) on the tenth matchday of Group A. Kolstad had previously only won one of nine games.
Defending champion SC Magdeburg, however, remains flawless. The Bundesliga leaders also won their tenth game of the season with 40:31 (19:13) against Hungarian runner-up Pick Szeged and lead Group B with 20 points ahead of FC Barcelona (18).
Bitter for Berlin in addition to the bankruptcy: Among the guests, who had to make do without their injured world handball player Matthias Gidsel, his compatriot Lasse Andersson was also injured. The best Berlin thrower in Trondheim was Matthes Langhoff with seven hits.
At Kolstad, alongside Magnus Sodena (nine goals), long-time Bundesliga goalkeeper Andreas Palicka stood out. The 39-year-old Swede, formerly under contract with THW Kiel and the Rhein-Neckar Löwen, repeatedly caused the foxes to despair.
Nine Magdeburg players scored at least three times against Szeged. Gisli Thorgeir Kristjansson was the most successful with six goals.
