November 30, 2025 – 5:10 a.mReading time: 2 minutes

Thomas Müller moves into the final of the American MLS Cup. His Whitecaps defeated league leaders San Diego.
The club of former FC Bayern star Thomas Müller clearly won 3-1 against San Diego FC in the last game of the playoffs. The Canadians took the lead in the eighth minute with a goal from Brian White. San Diego goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega made a mistake shortly afterwards and the ball ended up in his own goal. In stoppage time, Brian White scored again for the Vancouver Whitecaps to make it 0-3 for the guests.
San Diego, leaders in the Western Conference of the American Major League Soccer last season, changed three players during the break. Midfielder Luca de la Torre, defender Franco Negri and striker Hirving Lozano came onto the pitch.
Apparently the right decision, because Lozano scored in the 60th minute to make it 3-1 for the hosts. Onni Valakari, who received a yellow card after 27 minutes of play, was allowed to continue playing until the 66th minute.
After the goal, Whitecaps coach Jesper Sørensen took Bayern legend Thomas Müller off the field and replaced him with midfielder Ryan Gauld, apparently to make his team more defensive. Shortly before the end, San Diego goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega also saw a red card. In the fairly even game, the Whitecaps ended up having more possession of the ball and more shots on goal.
In June 2025, San Diego FC beat Müller’s team 5-3, and the last meeting in July resulted in a 1-1 draw. In the Major Soccer League, after the season that Vancouver ended in second place, there were playoffs between the best teams from the West and the East in October. After the Western Conference final, Müller will now face Inter Miami with Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi on December 6th. The Florida team defeated New York City 5-1.
