The Emilia-Romagna derby was decided in the first half between Gliozzi’s error from the spot in his eighth penalty of the championship (!) and the Spaniard’s goal for the home team’s victory
Bad neighbors. It’s another derby that spoils Modena’s run towards the top of Serie B. After Reggio Emilia there’s also Cesena: the only two defeats for the Gialloblù came on the pitch of their neighbours. It ends 1-0 for the Bianconeri, cover for goalkeeper Klinsmann who saves a penalty from Gliozzi and assists Blesa’s fourth goal. Cesena rejoices and rises to second place, tied at 26 with Modena: other than a one-night hold at the top of Monza, the yellow-blues are now surrounded. The only good news? The trips to Emilia-Romagna are over.

The outfit worn by Cesena and Modena is similar: a large midfield to supply the attacking duo Blesa-Shpendi and Gliozzi-Defrel. In the middle of the half here is the possible turning point: Mangraviti’s hand in the area is dramatic, a clear penalty for the guests. But striker Gliozzi has wet powder: Klinsmann bets on the pot and hits the jackpot, neutralizing the penalty. Cesena tries to respond with Berti’s volley, but a deflection from Adorni sends the ball into a corner. To score, the Bianconeri need the goalkeeper: Klinsmann in the 43rd minute relaunches for Blesa who wins the aerial duel with Adorni by pivoting cleverly. The Juventus number 7 thus finds itself in an instant in front of Chichizola: a comfortable flat for the 1-0.

Modena forgot to return to the pitch at the start of the second half and risked sinking twice between the 50th and 51st minutes: Cesena crossed the crossbar first with Castagnetti’s cross-shot and then with Blesa’s left-footed shot. The yellow-blues need a shock: Gerli tries to give it a left-footed lunge but finds Klinsmann attentive. Sottil fills the area by introducing Pedro Mendes and increases the speed with Caso: the latter, in the 75th minute, turns from two steps and sends the ball high for nothing. Modena’s forcing calls on Gerli to shoot again: great left foot, but Klinsmann only gives gifts to his teammates. The ones he celebrates with at the final whistle.
