Sports policy: Heike Ullrich becomes DFB general secretary

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – Heike Ullrich becomes the first general secretary of the German Football Association.

The 52-year-old was appointed by the new association executive committee at the suggestion of DFB boss Bernd Neuendorf and will take office this Friday. “I am very pleased that with Heike Ullrich we are getting a general secretary at the DFB for the first time. I appreciate her for her competence, her empathy and her commitment,” said Neuendorf in a statement on Thursday.

Ullrich, who has been working for the DFB since 1996, had already taken over the position provisionally the previous year after Friedrich Curtius left. “She does an excellent job, is highly regarded by the DFB employees and has proven over the past few months that the head of the central administration is in good hands with her,” said Neuendorf.

The graduate sports economist was involved with the DFB for many years, especially for women’s and girls’ soccer. Ullrich has been in charge of the DFB Directorate for Associations, Clubs and Leagues since 2018, which is responsible, among other things, for the entire game operations of the association with the DFB Cup, the 3rd division, the women’s Bundesliga and all amateur and youth divisions.
