Macaulay Culkin is a man of his word. After launching a fan-voted poll about his new middle name in 2018, The “Home Alone” star honored the winning vote and legally changed his name in 2019.

“My name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin,” the actor said at an event called “A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin” in Long Beach over the weekend. The event took place on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of “Home Alone”.

According to People, he went on stage to further explain the poll and his 2019 name change, which saw him drop his original middle name, Carson.

The comedy poll began in 2018

Culkin announced the survey on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon at the time. He ran voting on his former lifestyle website, BunnyEars.com, for a month in December. Five options were available, including eventual winner Macaulay Culkin. The other suggestions were Shark Week, TheMcRibIsBack, Publicity Stunt and Kieran (in honor of his younger brother).

“I was looking at my passport and stuff the other day, and I was looking at my middle name,” Culkin told Fallon at the time. “And I thought, you know, maybe I should spice up my name a little bit.”

Culkin first confirmed the change in 2025

Culkin announced the winning name on Christmas Day 2018 and told his fans he would be changing the name in 2019. This weekend he confirmed publicly for the first time that the name change had actually been made.

“The final choice was Macaulay Culkin,” he told the audience over the weekend. “So my name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin. If someone comes up to me at the airport and says, ‘Excuse me, are you Macaulay Culkin?’ I can say, ‘Well, Macaulay Culkin is my middle name.'”
