The Turkish record champions despair of the guests from Belgium and suffer an unnecessary defeat. The German international is not having his best day.
A very bitter evening for Leroy Sané and the Turkish top club Galatasaray on the fifth matchday of the Champions League. The “Lions” suffered an unfortunate 0-1 (0-0) defeat in the home game against underdog Union Saint-Gilloise.
Promise David (57th) scored for the Belgians’ surprising away win in a wild game in which the hosts in particular missed numerous chances. The German national player Leroy Sané was also unable to score a goal despite some good scenes. Galatasaray, who recently won three games in a row in the premier class, acted too hastily in the decisive scenes. To make matters worse, 18-year-old Arda Ünyay received a yellow-red card shortly before the end of his Champions League debut.
Gala, which had suffered its only defeat so far on the first matchday when it was dismantled by Eintracht Frankfurt (1:5), had to make do without injured star striker Victor Osimhen. Ilkay Gündoğan was back in the starting line-up for the first time since mid-October after his thigh strain; the 35-year-old former DFB star had already made his comeback as a substitute in the league at the weekend.
Ajax Amsterdam suffered its fifth defeat in the fifth game – Benfica Lisbon and star coach José Mourinho were able to celebrate the first three-pointer of this premier class season with a 2-0 (1-0) win in the Dutch capital. Samuel Dahl (6th) and former Mainz player Leandro Barreiro (90th) scored the goals.
