Honey Treatment Rich Cream
Tested by: Marieke ‘t Hart, editor-in-chief
‘I’m even estimated to be ten years younger!’
Brand: Guerlain
Price: €107.47 (50 ml)
What does it promise: Contains the most powerful bee products to correct 4 visible signs of collagen loss: firmness, wrinkles, smoothness and shine. It contains a high concentration of royal jelly with lipid-repairing properties and a beeswax butter to retain moisture at the core of the epidermis, for supple skin that feels comfortable.
How does it work: Apply the cream to your face in the morning and evening with your index finger. Finish by smoothing the crow’s feet outward.
Smell: Soft and neutral.
Plus point: This is a very rich cream that makes my skin visibly smoother and tighter after just a few days.
Con: Because the cream is quite greasy, it makes my face shine. That’s why I only use it at night.
Result: I’m even estimated to be ten years younger!
Conclusion: Very nice cream that I could become addicted to. But somehow it’s sad that bees have to work so hard because I want to look good if necessary.
Restorative Hydration Cream
Tested by: Marieke Pijlman, editor
‘You can apply the silky cream to your finger with a pump, very nice!’
Brand: Calecim
Price: €199 (50 ml)
What does it promise: A cream for thin and sensitive skin. The cream is claimed to soothe, hydrate and revitalize, which should leave you with visibly firmer skin.
How does it work: Apply in the morning and evening, so twice a day. Also in the jawline and neck area.
Smell: Very light, a bit indefinable.
Plus point: You can apply the silky cream to your finger with a pump, very nice! Spreads easily and does not feel greasy.
Con: I miss a fresh smell.
Result: The cream moisturizes my dry skin well, so I like to use it. But after a few weeks I don’t see any obvious difference when I look in the mirror. My skin is not firmer or plumper, maybe a little less dry.
Conclusion: A very nice cream, but I think it is extremely expensive. The difference with a cheaper brand is not so big that I would pay 200 euros for it. And I am sensitive to a nice smell and I miss that a bit.
Cream Biofixine
Tested by: Merike Woning, editor-in-chief
‘Am I seeing it right? I have a much more relaxed look.’
Brand: Biologique Recherche
Price: €250 (50 ml)
What does it promise: Relaxes the skin muscles and fills the lines.
How does it work: For best results, apply a pea-sized amount to clean skin in the morning and/or evening. Make gentle upward movements.
Smell: Neutral.
Plus point: My colleague Kim, our beauty editor, knows that I have a rather frugal nature, which is why she urges me before use to simply follow the instructions and apply according to the directions for use.
I do that, a pea-sized amount and sometimes a little more, but the cream spreads so well that it really isn’t necessary. The contents of the pot hardly seem to shrink. Noting that I only applied it to my face, because you can also apply it to your neck and décolleté.
Con: The price.
Result: Am I seeing it right? When I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, I look much more relaxed. My skin also looks much fresher!
Conclusion: If you have the money for it, I definitely recommend it.
Peaux Sensibles Soin Apaisant
Tested by: Sabine Leenhouts, coordinator VROUW Glossy
“Even if it gets in your eyes, it doesn’t burn.”
Brand: Sisley
Price: €182 (40 ml)
What does it promise: Soothes, nourishes and provides comfort.
How does it work: Apply morning and evening to clean skin. It is recommended to use it for a month so that the skin’s tolerance threshold is increased in the long term.
Smell: Actually smells like nothing.
Plus point: The pump makes it easy to use.
Con: As far as I’m concerned, the product has few negatives, but the price is really reasonable. It costs €4.55 per ml and will last you about two months.
Result: After a month my skin feels nourished and soft. I do not naturally have sensitive skin, but I notice that the cream is very soft and does not irritate in any way. Even if it gets into my eyes from exercise, it doesn’t burn.
Conclusion: If you want to be pampered and have sensitive skin, this is a great cream. This feels rich and of course also looks very nice and chic between the pots in the bathroom.
Essential Shock Intense Cream
Tested by: Marion Lansman, designer
‘Someone recently said: “What lovely soft skin you have!”’
Brand: Natura Bisse
Price: €141.50 (75 ml)
What does it promise: Suitable for mature skin, especially with hormonal fluctuations. And let me sit in that period. The multivitamin and special ingredients ensure good hydration, firming, restoration of elasticity and fading of wrinkles and a lifting effect. Sounds fantastic!
How does it work: You can use the cream as a day and/or night cream for the face, décolleté and neck. For all skin types.
Smell: Wonderful fresh scent of citrus and ginger.
Plus point: In terms of age, this is really a cream for me, because it stimulates collagen production. Feels full and rich and spreads easily. The cream does shine for a few minutes, so you have to let it absorb.
Con: It doesn’t contain SPF, which is a shame. That’s why I now only use it as a night cream.
Result: Someone recently said: “What lovely soft skin you have!” It also really seems like my skin is softer.
Conclusion: If you have the money for it, I can recommend it. But I also go for cheaper brands.
The Rich Cream
Tested by: Marian Konings, art director (ai)
‘It makes me wake up less disheveled.’
Brand: Labareau
Price: €174 (50 ml)
What does it promise: A rich, creamy formula that provides intensely hydrated and lifted skin.
How does it work: According to the packaging, you should apply 1 to 2 pumps to cleansed skin. But to properly lubricate my entire face and neck, I need 3 pumps as standard. That is because it is a fairly thick cream.
Smell: Fine. A nice, not overpowering scent.
Plus point: You can use it as a day and/or night cream and even as a mask during the night.
Con: Because the cream is so rich and creamy, your skin will initially shine quite a bit. That’s why I previously preferred to stay away from such greasy creams. But well before I leave the house, that shine is completely gone.
Result: I use it every morning and evening and immediately notice that I wake up much less disheveled. So firmer skin. Fine lines are less visible and my skin is clearly less dry than normal. Even after days of sun and sea during my holiday.
Conclusion: A delicious cream. I’m a fan!
Epigen pollution defense
Tested by: Jolien Strookappe, art director
‘The light gel texture absorbs like crazy.’
Brand: QMS
Price: €150 (50 ml)
What does it promise: The day and night gel cream protects and strengthens the skin, intensively hydrates, supports the skin barrier and provides protection against harmful environmental factors.
How does it work: Apply a small amount to the fingertips and then spread well over the face and neck.
Smell: Pretty subtle.
Plus point: The light gel texture absorbs like crazy, spreads very easily and is pleasant to use. Does not leave a greasy layer and moisturizes well. The pressure system is convenient; This way the cream stays clean, because you don’t have to scoop it into the jar with your finger or spatula.
WOMAN editors test eye creams: ‘I now use it daily and am really addicted’
Negative point: This is perfect for a day cream, but for the night I prefer a fuller, richer cream. My skin really needs that.
Result: My skin looks healthy and radiant, but I doubt this is the best product for me. I prefer a separate day and night cream.
Conclusion: It’s quite a price for what it does to my skin.
Ultra Hydrating Night Cream
Tested by: Kim Querfurth, beauty editor
‘I can only afford this once a year at the most.’
Brand: Cotrini (via ByJohn)
Price: €259 (50 ml)
What does it promise: Stimulates collagen production, promotes cell production, extremely hydrates and reduces fine lines. Korean cream with salmon sperm/salmon DNA.
How does it work: Apply a small lick to the fingertips with the spatula, rub slightly for a softer emulsion and then apply to the skin with tip movements and spread gently.
Smell: You would expect salmon, but no, this is pleasantly fresh, even a bit vanilla-like.
Plus point: The gel-like emulsion spreads smoothly and feels like a kind of balm that is quickly absorbed. The pot with the golden apple, including the spatula as a stem (with a magnet so you won’t lose it easily) looks very luxurious.
Con: The hefty price. I can only afford this once a year at most.
Result: My skin is calm, looks fresh and healthy, super hydrated and the crow’s feet around my eyes seem to have faded, just like the wrinkle between my eyebrows.
Conclusion: The best cream I have ever used!
