The fire broke out in the building around ten to half past six. It is not yet clear how extensive the damage is and what the exact size of the fire is.
According to the fire brigade, everyone present left the building safely. As a precaution, the Diederik Sonoyweg is closed in both directions.
Cocoa fires are becoming more common
It is probably the cocoa processing company JS Cocoa, although the fire brigade could not yet confirm this. The past two months have already emerged in the company fire three times before.
Fires have also broken out in a Zaan cocoa factory elsewhere in the Zaan region in recent months. On October 21 there was fire in a silo of a factory on the Bijenkorfstraat in Zaandijk, and at the end of September a major fire reported at a cocoa factory on the East side in Zaandam.
