John van den Heuvel has a schizophrenic relationship with Today Inside. On the one hand he is a big fan of that show, on the other hand he hates Johan Derksen. “Annoys me to bits.”
Johan Derksen has a number of favorite victims whom he verbally assaults several times a week in Today Inside and crime journalist John van den Heuvel is one of them. It plays a role in this that Royce de Vries, the son of Peter R. de Vries, is Johan’s lawyer. Peter was at odds with John when he was killed, and Royce is disgusted by him.
Annoying to the core
The way in which Johan expresses himself about him bothers John enormously. He recently even sent a lawyer to the VI-star after some critical statements about the role played by the Telegraaf journalist in the Marco Borsato case.
Despite all that, John doesn’t have to think long when he moves on Veronica Super guide is asked about his favorite guilty pleasure on TV: Today Inside. “I can get really annoyed with Johan Derksen, especially when it comes to myself. But I often have to laugh at him and René (van der Gijp, ed.).”
Information
John ultimately thinks Today Inside is just a good TV program. “It is also often quite informative, in the sense that they have interesting guests to whom I listen anyway. Wilfred Genee always knows how to talk to each other in a special way, which keeps you interested.”
What are his other TV favorites? “There is little that I watch with my wife, so last winter she asked: ‘Are you watching Winter Vol Liefde?’ At first it felt like an obligatory song. It was a bit of a freak show, I thought. But also very entertaining.”
Two sides
Finally John decided to watch. “It’s often discussed in RTL Boulevard, so it was a double-edged sword. My wife and I were able to watch a program for once and I was able to talk about it on TV.”
Finally, what does he never look at? “Those blocks for the News with airtime for the political parties… Then you see such a politician staring like a bunny into the headlights and regurgitating completely soulless texts that clearly come from the autocue. Terrible. I think that is such outdated television!”
