This is why profile pictures on social media are turning purple this month

You may have already seen them: purple profile pictures on TikTok and other social media. They are a gesture of solidarity and protest against femicide and gender-based violence. Women For Change’s campaign started in South Africa, but has since spread around the world. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), almost one in five Belgian women between the ages of 15 and 49 have been victims of physical, sexual and/or psychological violence by their partner.
