Kevin Spacey is virtually homeless after a series of sexual misconduct allegations. In an interview with The Telegraph, the actor said he lost his home in Baltimore, “because the costs have been astronomically high over the last seven years.”
“I had very little income and no expenses,” he said. “You get over it. In a strange way, I feel like I’m back where I started, which was just going where there was work. Everything’s in storage, and I’m hoping that at some point, when things continue to improve, I’ll be able to decide where I want to settle back down. I live in hotels, I live in Airbnbs, I go where the work is. I literally don’t have a home, that’s what I’m trying to explain.”
He described his financial situation as “not good” and admitted bankruptcy had been “discussed”.
Trials and acquittals
In recent years, Spacey has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen men. He has denied all allegations. In 2023, Spacey was found not guilty in a London court in a case in which four men claimed he sexually abused them between 2001 and 2013.
He was also acquitted in a 2022 civil lawsuit brought against him by actor Anthony Rapp alleging Spacey sexually molested him when he was 14.
Slow return to working life
Since 2017, when the allegations came to light, Spacey has struggled to get hired as an actor. He has appeared in a number of projects and recently performed a variety show in Cyprus, which is the focus of the article in The Telegraph. In the interview he claimed that he was slowly getting more work again.
“We are in contact with some extremely influential people who want me back to work,” he said. “And that will happen in due course. But I would also say that I think the industry is waiting for permission to do that. From someone who is in a position of enormous prestige and authority.”
He continued about his supposed place on Hollywood’s blacklist. “I feel like if Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino tomorrow Evan [seinen Manager, Evan Lowenstein] call, it’s over. I would feel incredibly honored and delighted if such talent picked up the phone.”
Personal reflection
Despite his financial struggles, Spacey said he “didn’t feel isolated at all.” “But it was also incredibly positive,” he said. “Having the opportunity to stop and look at my life and ask questions. Why was I such a good villain. Why did I fit so well into a narrative that existed out there? And some of those questions were important for me to take responsibility for my mistakes.”
He added: “I always felt that the public was on my side, understood what had happened and didn’t believe everything they read. I’ve always been very grateful for that.”
