The Moerdijk municipal council has agreed to the disappearance of the South Holland village. Moerdijk will have to make way for a port and industrial area in 10 years’ time, after long-standing disputes about the future of the village. The Moerdijk area will then become an important hub in the energy transition. The choice does not come as a surprise to many Moerdijkers, but the residents do not intend to simply bow to the municipality’s choice. Reporter Hein Keijser took a look at the village and spoke to several entrepreneurs who are no longer certain about their future. Will the Moerdijkers make way for industry? And at what price?
