Funeral procession and burial of the Prince of Darkness

The metal singer died at the end of July 2025 at the age of 76, just 17 days after Black Sabbath played a farewell concert at Villa Park in Birmingham. Ozzy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019 and has struggled with health problems since then.

The Prince of Darkness’s funeral took place privately in the grounds of his villa in Great Britain. Close friends such as Metallica and Elton John band members attended the ceremony. During the funeral, a funeral procession attended by several thousand fans marched through his hometown of Birmingham.

Louis Osbourne had a defining realization at Ozzy’s funeral

On Jack Osbourne’s “Trying Not To Die” podcast, the two half-brothers spoke about their father and how moving the funeral was for the metal legend’s eldest son. The DJ was overwhelmed by how many people attended the memorial service. The 50-year-old recalled his expectations for the day: “I thought it would just be two or three people gathering half a kilometer in front of the Black Sabbath Bridge, and not that it would be a crowd.”

He reported “crazy” scenes that occurred that day – of people “climbing lampposts, hanging out of windows and standing on bus stops” and people running after the family. He added: “I knew people loved him, but I had no idea how many and how much.” These impressions “impressed” him greatly and made him realize the influence the artist had and continues to have on culture through his music. Half-brother Jack summed it up in a curt but pointed remark: “When you’re in the middle of it, you just don’t see it… It’s just Dad.”

More Ozzy news

The other family members – sister Kelly, mother Sharon and son Jack – recently spoke on “The Osbournes Podcast” for the first time since Ozzy’s death about events surrounding the artist and family man. They revealed that Ozzy had been secretly hospitalized just two weeks before his final concert. They also reported that both Donald Trump and King Charles contacted them after learning of the death of the Prince of Darkness.
