Konstantin Wecker is facing serious allegations. A now 30-year-old woman who appears in a detailed report in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” under the pseudonym “Johanna” describes a relationship that is said to have started when she was just 15 years old. Wecker was 63 years old at the time.
First meeting at a concert in Lower Saxony
The first contact between the musician and the then student came about in March 2011. The ninth-grader attended a concert in Worpswede, Lower Saxony, with her family and a friend who knew Wecker personally. After the event, the two girls met the artist at the hotel bar without the family’s knowledge. According to the woman’s account, Wecker is said to have immediately started flirting with the 15-year-old.
Daily contact via text message and phone?
The teenager received her first text message from Wecker that same evening. He wanted her to come to his hotel room, which she refused. Nevertheless, intensive contact developed: almost daily via text message or telephone. The student secretly wrote to him during class, hiding her cell phone under the table.
The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” had access to chat histories and emails from this time. These show that Wecker told the young person that he found her very desirable, but that he would have to wait until she was 16 years old. In a text message he is said to have written: “If I were 20, I would be allowed to do all of this.” He also allegedly asked her to delete all messages and to deny everything if they were discovered.
Jealous and controlling behavior?
The messages would show different moods of the musician. Sometimes he was drunk, sometimes sober. He showed jealous behavior and once demanded that she wear a burqa so that other men could not look at her. On the other hand, he gave her compliments like “You’re wonderful.”
Physical meetings from the age of 16
When the young woman turned 16, she said physical contact occurred. In total, there are said to have been four meetings in hotel rooms. At the time, she “adored” the prominent artist and thought she was in a “love relationship” with him. Only later did she realize that it was manipulation and abuse of power.
Aggressive reaction to new relationship?
When the then 16-year-old told Wecker in 2012 that she had slept with a man her own age, the tone of his messages changed drastically. The messages were insulting and aggressive. Terms like “slut” and “mattress” are said to have been used. He told her that he wouldn’t allow her to have this “fun” and made her feel guilty. He was married at that time.
Wecker’s statement via his lawyer
The 78-year-old songwriter admits contact through his lawyer. He speaks of a “consensual relationship”, which, however, represents “completely inappropriate behavior under moral standards”. As an explanation, Wecker explains that at the time he “consumed a lot of alcohol over long periods of time” and was not “in control of his senses.”
In his statement, the musician apologizes to the woman concerned. He also apologizes to his fans and followers for the fact that his music is “once again” not the only thing they have to deal with in connection with him. His lawyer also emphasizes that Wecker assumes that he did not commit any criminal offenses at the time.
