The American cross-country skiing Olympic champion Jessie Diggins will end her successful career at the end of the coming season. The two-time world champion and three-time overall World Cup winner announced this in an emotional Instagram post.
“It will be difficult for me to say goodbye to this sport and this team that I love so much” wrote the 34-year-old on Instagram. “But it feels right in my heart and I’m really excited to start a new chapter in my life!“
And further: “Skiing has given me more joy, challenge, courage and community than I could have ever imagined. That’s why I want to take you all with me in this final year” wrote Diggins.

Diggins is one of the greats in her sport. She won Olympic gold in the team sprint in Pyeongchang in 2018, as well as silver (30 km freestyle) and bronze (sprint freestyle) in Beijing 2022. She also became world champion in the team sprint in 2013 and the ten kilometer freestyle in 2023, as well as five other World Cup medals.
Her greatest successes also include the three victories in the overall World Cup in 2021, 2024 and last season. The new World Cup season starts on November 28th. The highlight is the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 6th to 22nd. She will give everything again this season until her last race.
