In terms of sport, things are going great at FC Bayern. This should also make planning for the future easier. But some delicate questions need to be clarified on Säbener Strasse.
FC Bayern could hardly have imagined a better start to the season. Two wins in the cup, dominant performances in the Champions League and a clear lead in the Bundesliga: things are going well in Munich under coach Vincent Kompany.
With Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala and Hiroki Itō, three important players will soon be returning to the squad. Sports director Max Eberl explained to DAZN at the end of October: “Then we have the squad in place. We probably won’t do much in the winter.”
Nevertheless, some fans are wondering what will happen next for the record champions. Despite all the advertising from Bayern bosses, central defender Dayot Upamecano, for example, has not yet extended his contract, which expires at the end of the season, and has recently made rather vague statements. “I have a good advisor. We will make the right decision. I am concentrating on this season and my goals with the club and the national team,” the 27-year-old told the French newspaper L’Équipe.
As “Sport Bild” reports, FC Bayern is betting everything on extending the contract with Upamecano. A new central defender should not be hired in the winter. The Munich team has already been linked to Ibrahima Konaté (Liverpool FC, formerly Leipzig) and Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace), whose contracts expire in the summer of 2026.
They might be cheaper in winter and could help immediately. For the summer, however, there are reports that there will be competition from Madrid (for Konaté) and Liverpool (for Guéhi), among others. That would be a certain risk, after all, Bayern could not only lose Upamecano for a free transfer, but also lose out in the race for Konaté and Guéhi.
The situation in attack is much more relaxed, where Bayern have signed one of the best strikers in the world in Harry Kane and have loaned out a replacement in Nicolas Jackson, for whom there is an option to buy. According to Sky, the record champions will also be watching Fisnik Asllani from TSG Hoffenheim. In addition, Bayern from Denmark has been linked to the 21-year-old storm talent Franculino since the summer.
If Raphaël Guerreiro leaves in the summer, Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen is also said to be a candidate. This was recently reported by “Kicker”, and now “Sport Bild” confirms the rumor. In any case, what happens in Munich remains exciting.
