It was her debut as a professional golfer. But things turned out differently for Kai Trump than he had hoped.
Her first appearance on the big stage was bumpy: Kai Trump clearly missed the cut at the “The Annika” tournament in Florida. The 18-year-old was eliminated last in the field on her professional debut.
In Belleair, Trump needed a total of 158 strokes in the first two rounds – 27 more than the two leaders. That left her 17 strokes short of qualifying for the final two rounds.
After a weak start, she managed to make a significant improvement in the $3.25 million event: after a round of 83 at the start, she played a 75 on the second day. This meant she was able to reduce the gap to the field somewhat.
Trump achieved four birdies and almost a hole-in-one. At the same time she made a triple bogey. “I was definitely very nervous the first day. I think the nerves just got the best of me,” Trump said. On the second day, “I honestly felt very calm and composed. That’s why I played better.”
Kai Trump is the granddaughter of former US President Donald Trump. The amateur golfer was not there at the tournament. She also gets support from Tiger Woods. The 15-time major winner has been in a relationship with Trump’s mother Vanessa Trump since March.
