The Kölner Haie ended their mini-crisis in the DEL with a 4:3 (1:0, 0:3, 3:0) win in Wolfsburg. After taking a big lead, the Iserlohn Roosters lost in overtime against ERC Ingolstadt.
Ryan MacInnis brought out the guests Cologne Wolfsburg took the lead in the first third (16th). In front of 3,500 spectators, the second period belonged entirely to Wolfsburg, who scored 3-1 within three minutes.
Russell with the decision
The Sharks needed some time to recover from that hat-trick. But they didn’t give up and played big in the final phase. First, Louis Aubry (50th) and Moritz Müller (54th) scored to equalize 3-3. 43 seconds before the final siren, Patrick Russell made Cologne’s victory perfect.
After the recent defeats against Ingolstadt (3:10) and EHC Munich (0:2), the Haie celebrated three points again.
Bitter evening for Iserlohn
The evening was bitter for the Iserlohn Roosters in their own hall at Seilersee. They got off to a lightning start. Significantly involved: Daniel Fischbuch.
The national player contributed the first two goals to the 2-0 lead (1st/6th minute). But the Ingolstadt team made up for the deficit in the first third to make it 2-2 (8th/17th).
5:2 lead is not enough
The second third initially belonged to the Sauerlanders again. Taro Jentzsch (23rd), Eric Cornel (29th) and Henrik Törnqvist (30th) took a 5-2 lead.
Again it wasn’t enough for the Roosters. The ERC reduced the score to 4:5 in the second half before the guests equalized 5:5 in the 52nd minute.
Begged for the goals
“We literally begged to get the goals. We played well offensively, but defensively we played even worse,” said a disappointed Taro Jentzsch to Magenta.
In overtime, the guests from Bavaria had the better end for themselves after a controversial suspension against the Iserlohn team. It was the Roosters’ eighth defeat in their last nine games. They remain second to last in the DEL with eleven points.
Sharks welcome Dresden Ice Lions
Both NRW teams continue on Sunday. The sharks await the Dresden Ice Lions on their own ice (4.30 p.m.). The Iserlohners are already playing in Schwenningen at 2 p.m.
