The Ski Jumping World Cup starts again at the end of November. And Katharina Schmid has big plans for the season.
Katharina Schmid wants to win precious metal at the Olympic Games in Italy in February. Especially in the mixed competition, she “still has a score to settle,” as she revealed in an interview with the TV station Eurosport. In 2022, several German jumpers, including Schmid, were disqualified because of suits that did not comply with the rules. The end result: an early exit instead of a gold medal.
“We will attack again and try to put what happened in Beijing behind us and move on from there,” Schmid announced at Eurosport. The 29-year-old emphasized that the issue of 2022 has now been forgotten: “Of course it was bitter, but unfortunately it happened and I can’t change anything about it. Now we have the chance to do it again.”
For Schmid it is probably the last year of his career. With seven World Cup titles and many national medals as well as World Cup victories, the list of successes is long. In the recent past she even thought about ending her career in spring 2025. “After last winter, I thought for a long time about where I wanted to go,” she remembered. But: “During training I realized that I was having incredible fun. The feeling is there and I’m just excited about it, without looking at the distances and placements.”
But individual gold at the Olympics is still missing. “If I have a good day, if everything comes together, then I can be at the front and fight for the medals,” Schmid is convinced. She won the silver medal in Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022. In Predazzo, northern Italy, a more noble metal can now follow next February.
