It is Francky Fertein who this morning, during his daily tour around the Plane Tree Pond, sees dozens of dead carp and roach floating on the water surface. A lack of oxygen, it sounds. “Normally, that well would have to be dredged. There is a layer of silt in it of at least one meter. That is a tragedy.”

Due to the many leaves that are now falling from the trees, the pumps that provide oxygen are becoming clogged. “We cleaned the pumps this morning and put them back in. And now the pumps are running again. You can see that the fish has already stabilized a bit. Tomorrow we will scoop up all the dead fish.”
The Izegem city services have now also installed an extra pump to save as many fish as possible.
